About the Artist

I’ve always had some natural artistic skill–but from a young age I was encouraged to set that skill aside because “you can’t make a career out of art.” Hah, well didn’t I pick a real lucrative alternative as a wildlife biologist!

Though I never had the intention of doing anything serious with it, I’ve never stopped creating. Sometimes its just a painting of what I saw at work, or a plant or critter that really tickled me. Other times it was a neat little memento I found in the field that I wanted to make into something more. Either way, my day job has been slowly infiltrating my artwork, and finally I feel like I have enough to bring out into the light. By no means do I have everything all figured out—I feel I’m only just beginning. But I’m so excited to open my journey up to others, and I can’t express how grateful I am that you’ve taken an interest in my work :)

About the Wildlife Biologist

You can take the girl out of the wild, but good luck taking the wild out of the girl.

I grew up with dirt under my nails, barefoot in the mud, probably poking some critter with a stick. It was only natural that I major in wildlife ecology and conservation. This field has taught me so much—about the natural world, for sure, but also about people, society, and myself. Since graduating, I’ve worked with a huge variety of both stakeholders and species! From cowboys to developers, state agencies to farmers, I’ve had the privilege of seeing a diverse array of perspectives and setting foot on such a variety of properties. From game species like whitetail deer and bobwhite quail, to threatened and endangered species like the gopher tortoise and the Florida panther–they all have their own story, bound and woven with the stories of all of the people around them. These stories have–and continue to–fascinate me.
