Pheasants are a common game bird, though few realize they are not native to America. That said, they are not invasive either, making them occasional targets in sporting events.
I have mixed feelings about pheasant shoots—feelings I will not sort out here. That said, I am absolutely a proponent of hunting when the most is made of the harvest. When the hunt club I was working with offered to let me collect mementos and artifacts from their quarry, I eagerly accepted.
Each of the feathers in these earrings was carefully removed by hand. I treated every feather with respect, acknowledging the life it had carried—each one a testament to the bird’s journey. They were then cleaned, sorted, and arranged to create the earrings you see before you.
Thanks to you, these feathers now soar with a story all their own.
